Here I Go Again, But Differently

Good day, Classmates

Today is a very emotional day for us in the Jewish community. Though I am in the process of converting, I am counted as one of the tribe. Yes, I can use the word tribe, as there were twelve at one point, which one I belong to is only a guess.

I posted on social media that I was to go to the October 7th Commemoration service hosted by my synagogue, but health matters arose and I am unable to go. This time of reflection has allowed me to delve deeper into my place in the Jewish family and my responsibility to keep the memories of those lost in the sphere. For this reason I have decided to make music arrangements of Jewish composers who were either forced to change their names due to anti-Jewish hate or were killed in the Shoah.

Keeping their memories present is important, and letting the world know what was taken away, whether eighty years ago or one year ago is my part of connect to my family. If you are feeling overwhelmed, reach out to an ally. As an ally, reach out to your Jewish friends.

May the memories of all killed be a blessing. May all those living with the trauma of surviving be filled with support, love and light. May all those fighting to protect be guided. May all those displaced by bombs and mortars be taken into refuge and cared for. We do not want this war to continue.

Thank you.
